CHURCHILL RESIDENTS ARE BARKING MAD!

Churchill dog owners

Homeowners in Churchill are the dog loving kind, as it has been revealed that over 50% of households at Newland Homes’ Mendip Gate development provide a loving home to at least one canine companion, eclipsing the national average of 33%.

There are an estimated 12 million dogs living in homes in the UK and according to a recent survey by Statista, dogs are now the most commonly owned household pet.  January is Walk Your Dog Month, recognised internationally around the globe, and it is believed that the abundance of good walking opportunities in the locality is what’s attracting dog owners to Churchill.

The Walk Your Dog awareness month encourages people to venture out into the great outdoors, be it along the coastline of the Bristol Channel or into the many surrounding areas of outstanding natural beauty.  There are obvious health benefits for both owner and dog and it’s a chance to dust off the January blues, get out and about and meet other dog walkers.

Newland Homes has been quick to welcome furry companions to Mendip Gate.  The showhome is dog friendly with water bowls and treats for visiting pooches and Stanley, a friendly Hungarian Vizla / Weimaraner mix owned by Newland Homes Site Manager, Mark, greets visitors with a wag of his tail!

Laura Vincent, Newland Homes’ Sales Consultant at Mendip Gate, provides some insight into the reasons why the development has proven so popular with dog owners: “Our pets become part of the family, so when people are making decisions about where to live consideration has to be given to how pet-friendly the local area is.  Churchill has a great network of fantastic country walks, dog-friendly beaches within striking distance, and there are plenty of dog-walkers and groomers in the area, as well as cafes and restaurants that welcome dogs.”

New residents who are already making the most of everything that North Somerset has to offer are Sue and Mike Brown, who moved to Mendip Gate in Churchill to be closer to their grandchildren.  Like most of the UK, they were separated from their family over the lockdown periods, so they sold their previous house by Newland Homes in Gloucestershire and relocated to North Somerset with their four dogs.  Sue says: “The walks in the area are spectacular.  We can walk out of our front door and take the dogs across the Mendip Hills, where we can see all the way down the Severn Valley to the Severn Bridge.”

Mendip Gate is a bespoke collection of three, four and five bedroom homes in the village of Churchill on the edge of the dramatic Mendip Hills.  All detached homes have solar PV, resulting in a circa 20% reduction in carbon emissions for these properties and a significant reduction in energy bills.  Homes are also wired for an electric car charging point.  As home working looks to become a more permanent fixture in our lives, a good broadband connection is imperative, and Mendip Gate boasts pre-installed superfast fibre broadband.

There are just six remaining homes at Mendip Gate, such as the last two detached Honeybourne homes.  These double fronted homes have three bedrooms, including a spacious principal bedroom suite with en-suite shower room and built-in wardrobes.  Prices start from £380,000 at Mendip Gate for a detached Honeybourne, with flooring included and legal fees paid.
